TESTS

The bio-spray, once sprayed on the ground, forms a film that isolates the underlying soil preventing the birth of weeds. This film has a duration of approx. 4-8 months depending on the application and the type of mixture. After the cultivation period has elapsed, the treated soil is milled by motor hoe and the film becomes a 100% perfectly eco-compatible fertilizer or fertilizer.

The bio-spray protects the soil around the stem even with the adult plant, while the application of a mulching sheet or manual weeding would be very expensive. The spray is available both with dark or light color depending on the need for insolation (eg pomegranate). It can be applied simultaneously to the plowing of the land not cultivated between a row and the other with slightly modified means already owned by the farmers.

ABOUT US

Agribiom is a start-up, founded in 2018, winner of the first edition of the Circular Economy Network award for new companies generated by research that carry out activities in the circular economy.
The industrialization, marketing and application of the solution proposed by Agribiom is part of a framework of development of organic agriculture in strong growth in Italy.
It deals with the environmentally friendly production of mulching bio-spray from renewable sources and agro-industrial waste, as an alternative to the use of non-biodegradable petroleum-derived plastics that generate high environmental damage.

Bio BIVE

Agribiom is an innovative company, established in 2018 as a start-up and winner of the first edition of the Circular Economy Network award intended for research-generated start-ups carrying out activities in the circular economy.

BIOBIVE project

Grant agreement ID 101130442

Biodegradable Delivery Systems for Plant Pathogens Control of Horticultural Crops Through Bioactive Agents.

The BioBIVEproject is dedicated to creating cutting-edge, bio-based and bioactive delivery systems to manage plant pathogens in a variety of horticultural crops. By reducing reliance on fossil-based materials and minimizing pesticide use, the project aims to lessen the environmental impact of agricultural practices. Bioactive agents—such as basic substances, phlorotannins, and microorganisms—will be integrated into biodegradable delivery systems, including mulch films, biochar, and sprayable mulch films. This approach will not only enhance crop yield and health but also provide innovative, sustainable, and eco-friendly agricultural solutions. These systems will be tested in real-world case studies at TRL5-6, focusing on tomatoes, carrots, and strawberries.

The BioBIVE project offers a novel solution by developing controlled-release systems that deliver bio-based compounds with bioactive properties to control plant pathogens in key horticultural crops, such as tomatoes, carrots, and strawberries. These crops have been chosen due to their importance in Europe, considering various socio-economic factors.

Reducing pesticide use is a priority outlined by the European Commission, which is working toward new regulations that aim to cut pesticide usage by 50% by 2030. This makes the search for more effective, biocompatible, and biodegradable biocides a pressing need, in order to address the shortcomings of conventional agrochemicals.

To address this, BioBIVE will incorporate bioactive agents—such as plant or algae extracts and microorganisms with antifungal properties—into biodegradable systems for controlled release. These systems are designed to improve crop health and yield. Their effectiveness will be validated through real-world case studies involving three major European crops (tomatoes, carrots, and strawberries). The project will bring together multidisciplinary teams of biologists, chemists, bioplastics manufacturers, biotechnologists, material engineers, farmers, computer scientists, and economists to collaborate on this transformative initiative.

The Innovation

WHAT IS THERE TO KNOW

Currently the coverings of greenhouses and tunnels used to protect crops from atmospheric agents are made up of petroleum-based plastics which have high mechanical performance, easy processability and resistance to microbial degradation. On the other hand, the periodic and frequent replacement of plastic films at the end of their use generates a huge amount of agricultural plastic waste after use. The problem assumes particular importance from the environmental point of view, since it generates a flow of plastic waste that often does not proceed towards a rational process of treatment, collection, disposal and / or recovery. In particular, they are contaminated by the chemicals normally used in agriculture and their fate is the unwary neglect of the land itself or in illegal landfills or, worse still, the reckless combustion with consequent release of toxic substances in the air or in the ground.

OUR ALTERNATIVE

An ecologically valid alternative to drastically reduce this environmental degradation is represented by our bio-spray, applied following an eco-sustainable and absolutely innovative methodology. The bio-spray, consisting of an aqueous solution based on polysaccharides, obtained from renewable and easily available sources, is sprayed onto the ground generating a protective geo-membrane covering the ground, which guarantees a valid alternative by performing barrier functions against the growth of weeds and maintenance of soil moisture. The geo-membrane, after having performed its function, is milled and buried to be easily metabolized by the bacterial flora present in the soil that transforms it into biomass, water, methane or carbon dioxide.

ADVANTAGES AND CONCLUSIONS

The experimental advantages of spray mulching are many: in addition to avoiding post-consumer problems, it greatly facilitates the work done by the farmer: in the polysaccharide matrix aqueous formulation, in fact, it is possible to include substances necessary for the optimization of agricultural production.

CONSULTING AND
TRAINING

Agribiom is a valid support for organizations and companies of various kinds throughout the Campania and national territory, thanks to our consultancy in Circular Economy we are able to highlight the economic and financial needs of client companies, verifying the cash flows necessary to implement the improvements identified, we therefore have a great capacity to identify the flow of value, through the mapping of business processes, to adapt it and transform it in a coherent way. For this Agribiom uses experts in the financial and economic fields, so as to offer and develop a complete, valid and effective assistance. We have the ability to combine innovative ideas to promote the evolution of products and the development of an appropriate Business Plan. The first result consists precisely in the reduction of waste due to organizational inefficiencies and the reduction of waste and waste from the materials used, even by resorting to the use of new recyclable materials, when possible. Those who request it will be able to take advantage of complete dedicated advice and the drafting of a practical and targeted Strategic Development Plan. For the precise purpose of implementing innovations and increasing business, it is also necessary to invest in the organization and in Human Resources.
